From
December to March the North of Australia enters the “wet
season”. Whilst 90% of our annual rainfall will fall within
this period it should not discourage you from visiting.
The countryside comes alive turning a lush green with waterfalls
thundering from the top of the escarpment.
You
may also be lucky enough to witness some truly spectacular
lightning and thunder storms. In a tropical climate such
as this the majority of rain comes with monsoon storms typically
in the early morning and late afternoon but rain may not
fall for days on end.
At this
time of the year our itineraries and daily activities change
to cope with the varying climate.
Please
Note: Child prices (when sharing with adults) are available
on application and subject to availability.
Prices
for children sharing with two adults available on application.
Itinerary
Day
1
We
depart your Darwin accommodation around 0700 hours and travel
to Litchfield Park to visit the beautiful Tolmer
Falls and Wangi Falls two of the many waterfalls
cascading from the Tabletop Ranges.Perhaps a swim in the
plunge pool at the base of Wangi, or a walk to explore the
surrounding monsoon rainforest.
After lunch we continue our journey and visit the Florence
Falls, perhaps the prettiest of them all.
Later in the afternoon we leave the national park via the
small township of Batchelor foo tonight’s accommodation
at the Lake Bennett Wilderness Resort.
|
|
|
|
Day
2
After
breakfast we continue south to the historic mining settlement
of Pine Creek, site of a major gold rush a century
ago and still a gold mining town today. A brief look around
the town before we continue to the World Heritage Listed
Kakadu National Park.
We travel through the South Alligator Valley into
the southern, less visited section of Kakadu known as the
stone country.
A visit to the spectacular Gunlom Falls will surely
be a highlight. Gunlom was made famous in the movie “Crocodile
Dundee” as Echo Pool. Here we have the opportunity to hike
to the top of the waterfalls and explore the beautiful rock
pools as well as take in the spectacular views of the Arnhem
Escarpment.
This afternoon we continue our journey to the North and
to this evening’s accommodation at the Gagudju Lodge
Cooinda.
Day
3
Early
this morning, we embark on a guided cruise on the world
famous Yellow Water wetlands with the opportunity
to see some of the myriad bird life and of course, the awesome
saltwater crocodile. Brolgas, Jabiru, Whistling Ducks, Radjah
Shellduck & Magpie Geese together with many species of Kingfisher
and Heron abound in these wetlands. After the cruise we
head across the Jabiluka floodplains to Ubirr to
view the Aboriginal rock art spanning 23,000 years
and a seasonal occupation site. The view from the top of
the rock is magnificent. From here we continue on to Darwin
arriving in the late afternoon.
Please
Note: In the months of December to April some areas
(Gunlom and Ubirr) can be inaccessible due to flooding.
In these instances substitute areas will be visited.
