On safari
your accommodation
is in our purpose built “Safari Tents”. They are locally
designed for our tropical climate. The walls are of canvas
and the windows of insect screen. The floors are of wood
and are raised above the ground. You’ll enjoy the comfort
of this spacious cool design. Each tent has 2 single camp
beds on to which is rolled a traditional Australian bushmans
swag with high density mattress, linen, blankets and pillow.
Each
camping area is serviced with hot showers and flushing toilets.
In
the evenings you will enjoy a sumptuous candle lit dinner
of local Barramundi and a traditional roast beef both cooked
on the camp fire. Vegetarian and other diets are catered
for but you must request it when you book.
Itinerary
Day
1
Today
we leave Darwin and travel down “The Track” to Adelaide
River. We then travel through the back tracks to the old
historic mining settlement of Pine Creek, site of
a major gold rush a century ago and still a gold mining
town today.
We’ll
stop for lunch before heading east into the World Heritage
Listed Kakadu National Park. This evening’s camp is
at Gunlom Falls (made famous by the movie Crocodile Dundee).
The beautiful Gunlom Falls is situated in the South
Alligator Valley in the southern, less visited part
of the park.
Upon
arrival at camp we set off on an energetic climb to the
top of the falls. Here we take in the breathtaking views
and perhaps enjoy a swim in one of the many rock pools.
Day
2
This
morning we continue our journey to through the South Alligator
Valley to Maguk (Barramundi Falls). Here we have
the opportunity to explore the surrounding monsoon rainforest
and take a swim in the beautiful plunge pool.
fter
lunch at a picturesque spot, we head north to the Warradjan
Aboriginal Cultural Centre, an impressive building built
in the shape of the local freshwater turtle. Here you will
learn about the traditional Aboriginal owners of the park,
their culture, beliefs and lifestyles.
To end
the day we enjoy a spectacular sunset cruise on the world-renowned
Yellow Water wetlands, with the opportunity to see the
myriad birdlife and perhaps the awesome saltwater crocodile.
Tonight’s
camp is at nearby Mardugal Billabong.

|
Day
3
This
morning we continue north one of Kakadu’s famous rock art
sites at Nourlangie Rock, where you will see ochre
rock paintings. Spanning a period of continuous occupation
of this area for over 20,000 years. Your guide will explain
the stories and mythology relating to the art.
We then
begin our journey to Ubirr to view more interesting
Aboriginal rock art. The view from the top of the rock is
magnificent. En route to Darwin we travel across the Mary,
Adelaide and Marrakai Plains.
We’ll
make a quick stop at the Bark Hut Inn. Then it’s on to Darwin,
arriving at your accommodation in the late afternoon.
Maximum
of just 12 passengers. Tuesday departures run in the reverse
order to that listed above.
